Let’s Talk About Period Underwear

Here’s the thing, no one really prepares us for how annoying or inconvenient our period can be.

Not only the cramps or the mood swings, but the constant “what ifs” of it. We are constantly checking, changing, adjusting, hoping nothing leaks, planning our day around a bathroom, and to be honest, it’s exhausting in a way we don’t really talk about.

Then we try period underwear, and it’s kind of like… wait, why didn’t I try this sooner?

But let’s be real, there is a bit of an adjustment period. For most of us, pads and tampons are the standard, and until recently our only option. Now women are starting to rewrite the script, but it makes sense that there’s a learning curve when we try something new.

For the first couple cycles in our Her Bloom period underwear, we’re probably going to pay attention to our flow more closely and might find ourselves checking more often. We’ll figure out what absorbency we need, what pairs we trust on our heavier days, and when we’ll still want a backup. It’s not a one-size-fits-all, and that’s okay because eventually we find our flow and when we do, that’s when everything clicks.

Because the biggest thing isn’t the absorbency, although yes, that part matters; It’s the feeling of not constantly having to worry about the “what ifs”. We can put them on and go about our day without the extra anxiety holding us back.

They don’t feel bulky or like something we feel forced to wear. They just feel like normal underwear, which sounds small, but makes a big difference. Honestly, it changes everything.

There’s also something really comforting about knowing we’re covered when our period comes. No last minute runs to the store and no “do I have enough with me?” because we have all been there.  It simplifies things in a way we don’t realize until we experience it, and that’s what it really comes down to.

It just makes our period feel like less of a whole thing; Less planning, less stress, less of our day centered around it and once we get used to that, it’s hard to go back.
